Coronavirus Update

Novel coronavirus (COVID-19) is a new and emerging infectious disease threat. There is still much uncertainty around its clinical presentation but the spectrum of disease may range from mild-to-moderate illness to pneumonia or severe acute respiratory infection.  The approach taken by NHS Scotland is to identify potential cases of COVID-19, isolate them and contain the virus.

If you have any of the symptoms (temperature, cough, shortness of breath) within 14 days of travel to a risk area you should contact your GP or NHS 24 (contact 111) by telephone. You should not attend the dental practice, GP surgery or A&E department.

Up to date information (including risk areas) for the public is available at NHS Inform. Contacts of a confirmed case should also defer their treatment until their local Health Protection Team has advised otherwise. Triaging by the dental reception team in advance of the appointment may be undertaken to prevent individuals with ‘possible’ or ‘confirmed’ COVID-19 arriving for their appointment.

Further information on COVID-19 can be found on NHS Inform or by contacting NHS24 on 111.

Asymptomatic individuals who have travelled from risk areas can be treated as usual, with our dental team following our usual high standards of universal infection control precautions.
